How to store your Wegovy & Mounjaro pens

Most medicines can be tucked away in a kitchen cupboard and forgotten until they’re needed. But weight loss injections require more careful storage than your usual medicines.

Treatments like Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide) aren’t cheap, so proper storage is essential to avoid wasting any of your pens! 

Mounjaro and Wegovy should be stored in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F) and kept in their original packaging to protect them from the light. Never freeze the pen, as this can damage it. 

Since the pen contains delicate glass parts, handle it with care. If it’s dropped on a hard surface, use a new one. 

Fridge temperatures can vary, so check that your pen hasn’t frozen before use. To prevent this, store it in the fridge door rather than at the back. Following these steps ensures your pen stays effective and safe to use.

Can you store Mounjaro & Wegovy at room temperature?

Both Mounjaro and Wegovy can be stored at room temperature if needed. Mounjaro can be stored for up to 30 days (below 30°C/86°F), and Wegovy for up to 42 days (below 25°C/77°F).

We’ve mentioned that Mounjaro and Wegovy should be kept refrigerated, but what’s the best storage temperature for your pen?

Keep your fridge between 2 and 8°C. If it drops below 2°C, your pen could freeze, making it unusable.

Are you heading on holiday? No problem! Mounjaro can stay at room temperature for up to 30 days and Wegovy for up to 42 days. Keep it below 30°C and in its original packaging to protect it from the light.

If you’re flying, pack your pen in your carry-on, as checked luggage can be exposed to freezing temperatures.

How to tell if your Mounjaro or Wegovy pen is safe to use

Always check your pen before injecting to make sure it’s safe to use.

Inspect it for any damage and ensure the medication is undamaged and free from particles or cloudiness. Make sure it hasn’t been frozen and that its colour is either colourless or slightly yellow. Don’t forget to check the expiration date, too!

If your Mounjaro pen has been unrefrigerated for over 30 days, or your Wegovy pen for over 42 days, it’s no longer safe to use. If you’re unsure, always speak to your prescriber before injecting.
