Starting a new weight loss treatment can feel exciting, hopeful, and perhaps a little overwhelming. If you’re waiting for your first order, or it’s just arrived, you're likely wondering what happens next.
The good news is that you don't need to have everything figured out from day one. The first few weeks are about getting familiar with your treatment, understanding how your body responds, and beginning to build habits that support your long-term health goals.
In this guide, we'll explain what to expect when your order arrives, how to take your treatment confidently, and the small steps you can take to set yourself up for success.
Key points
- The first few weeks are about helping your body adjust to treatment and building sustainable habits that support long-term weight loss.
- Many people notice changes in appetite and fullness before they notice changes on the scales.
- Weight loss is a gradual process, and your myBMI clinical team is here to support you throughout your journey.
What's in your order?
When your order arrives, take a few moments to check everything carefully before starting treatment.
Your order should contain:
- 3 blister packs containing 10 tablets each
- patient information leaflet (PIL)
- packaging that is sealed and undamaged
Unlike weight loss injections, the Wegovy pill does not require refrigeration or specialist cold-chain delivery. This makes storage and travel much simpler.
Before taking your first dose, make sure:
- the packaging has not been opened or tampered with
- the medication matches the dose prescribed to you
- the expiry date has not passed
If anything appears incorrect, damaged, or missing, contact the myBMI support team before taking your medication.
How to store your treatment
One of the benefits of the Wegovy pill is that storage is straightforward.
Keep your tablets:
- in their original packaging
- in a cool, dry place
- away from direct sunlight
- out of the sight and reach of children
You may find it helpful to store your treatment alongside any other daily medication you take. This can make it easier to build a consistent routine and remember each dose.
Avoid storing tablets in:
- bathrooms with high humidity
- windowsills
- cars
- areas exposed to excessive heat
Taking your first dose with confidence
Before taking your first tablet, read the patient information leaflet included with your medication. It’ll help you feel more confident that you’re taking treatment safely and effectively.
The Wegovy pill should be taken exactly as instructed by your clinician.
For most people, this means:
- Taking the tablet first thing in the morning.
- Taking it on an empty stomach.
- Swallowing it whole with a small amount of water (no more than 120ml).
- Waiting 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medications.
Following these instructions helps make sure your body absorbs the medication properly, while reducing the risk of complications and side effects.
It's completely normal to feel slightly nervous before taking your first dose. Remember that your starting dose is designed to help your body adjust gradually to treatment, and that we’re here if you have any questions.
What to do if you're switching from injections
If you’re switching from a weight loss injection, your clinician will have confirmed the correct starting dose for where you are in your journey.
Whether you were on Mounjaro or Wegovy, it’s then typically recommended you wait 7 days between your final dose and your first tablet. This is to make sure your treatments don’t overlap.
"Switching between weight loss medications should always be done under clinical supervision. Our team reviews your treatment history and individual circumstances to help guide you towards a safe and appropriate transition."

5 tips for your first few weeks of treatment
Starting treatment is an important milestone, but the first few weeks are really about learning how your body responds and finding a routine that works for you.
1. Check in with your body and how it feels
Many people notice changes in appetite before they notice changes in weight.
You may find that:
- you feel fuller sooner
- you think about food less often
- your usual portion sizes feel too large
- cravings become less frequent
These are all signs that your treatment is working.
“Rather than forcing yourself to eat the same way you always have, try to pay attention to these changes and respond to them. Figuring out your new relationship with food and hunger is a huge part of your journey.
“For example, eating more slowly and stopping when comfortably full can help you work with these new hunger signals.”

Remember: Appetite changes often happen before visible weight loss.
2. Learn how to manage any side effects
Not everyone experiences side effects, and many people have very few problems during treatment.
If side effects do occur, they are often mild and improve as your body adjusts.
Common side effects may include:
- nausea
- constipation
- diarrhoea
- bloating
- stomach discomfort
If you do experience side effects, you can normally help ease them by:
- eating smaller meals
- avoiding very rich or greasy foods
- staying well hydrated
- eating slowly
Everyone's experience is different. Finding the foods that work for you while on your treatment, including those that trigger side effects, can set you up for success in the long-term.
Remember: Side effects are often temporary and aren’t a sign that your treatment isn’t working.
3. Build your daily routine
Consistency is one of the most important habits to build in the early days of your treatment.
Simple strategies can help you stay on track:
- set a daily reminder on your phone
- keep your medication somewhere visible
- link taking your tablet to an existing morning habit (but one that doesn’t involve food or drink)
The easier you make your routine, the more likely you are to stick to it.
Remember: Missing the odd dose doesn't mean you've failed, or your treatment will stop working. Focus on getting back into your routine as soon as you can.
4. Explore healthier food habits
The Wegovy pill works best alongside sustainable lifestyle changes.
This doesn't mean following restrictive diets or cutting out entire food groups but rather shifting your habits in a healthier direction.
When putting together your meals, focus on:
- smaller portions
- eating more vegetables
- choosing lean sources of protein
- increasing your fibre intake
- drinking plenty of water
- reducing highly processed foods where possible
But you don’t have to completely change your diet all at once. Making small improvements over time is more likely to work than a big, sweeping change that you may struggle to maintain long-term.

Remember: Progress comes from consistency, not perfection. A treat now and then isn’t going to derail your progress.
5. Find a physical activity you enjoy
You don’t need to become a gym enthusiast overnight!
The most effective exercise is usually the one you genuinely enjoy and can continue doing regularly. This can include everything from swimming and cycling, to a walk to the shops.
Everyone’s base level of physical activity is different, so what it looks like to move more is going to be different too.
"Physical activity isn't about punishment or earning food. It's about supporting your health, maintaining muscle, and finding forms of movement that make you feel good both physically and mentally."
Ayesha Bashir, weight loss expert at myBMI
Remember: Something is always better than nothing. Small amounts of regular movement can make a meaningful difference, even if it’s a small walk over driving, or half an hour spent gardening.
What happens next?
As your body adjusts to treatment, your clinical team will continue to monitor your progress and help determine the most appropriate next steps.
Many people remain on each dose for around 30 days before moving to the next stage of treatment. However, your journey will always be guided by how you’re responding to the treatment, and how you’re dealing with any side effects.
Our clinicians can help you decide whether:
- you should remain on your current dose
- a dose increase may be appropriate
- any adjustments are needed
When to reorder
Try not to wait until you have completely run out of medication before reordering.
Whether you are continuing on the same dose or moving to a higher one, you'll need to complete a new consultation before your next prescription can be issued.
A good rule of thumb is to begin your next consultation when you have roughly a week left of your current pack. This’ll give you plenty of time to get your next dose it and continue your treatment uninterrupted.
When to seek medical advice
While most people tolerate treatment well, it's important to seek medical advice if you experience:
- severe or persistent vomiting
- severe abdominal pain
- signs of dehydration
- allergic reactions
- side effects that do not improve or become difficult to manage
If you are concerned about any symptom, contact your clinician for guidance.

Frequently asked questions about starting the Wegovy pill
How long do you stay on each dose of the Wegovy pill?
Most people remain on each dose for approximately 30 days before moving to the next stage of treatment. Your clinician may recommend a different approach depending on how you respond.
Do you have to increase to 25mg?
Not necessarily. Some people may remain on lower doses for longer if they are achieving good results and tolerating treatment well. However, much of the clinical evidence for weight loss is based on people reaching the full maintenance dose of 25mg.
